Zak was sitting back in one chair, smoking. Well his nerves were shot to pieces anyway so he could hardly get any worse and if he thought too much about what was happening, he would probably do a runner even before the other guys. They all looked like they were waiting for someone to call it quits and they would get back to their normal life, even though for most of them, normal life was hell.
Bahran looked at the other two guys. âWell it doesnât look good but there must be more to it. Surely they are not going to leave us out there for nothing? I think we should go and pick the car up and do what is required of us, even though it looks like we have been sent like sheep to the slaughter, we can at least get out fast if it looks bad and take the car with us. I for one am not going to commit suicide.â Jalar was nodding in the affirmative, hoping that things would work out better than at least the group was thinking.
Bahran got up. âWe need to get to the car, hopefully it has gas. Then we will take things slowly to the causeway. We have enough time.â They hadnât stayed in the flat more than five minutes but all three men wanted to get this over with, or get out as fast as possible if the plan was going belly up. Problem was none of them knew what the plan was except for dropping a car off at the time designated. Bahran led them down the stairs and out on to the pavement. âLetâs not walk together. Zak, you keep back from me on this side of the road and youââ he pointed at Jalarâ âkeep to the other side and donât keep looking at us. We need to make it look like business as usual.â
Omar and Tabern went in a different direction to their lock-up but had the same instructions as the others except for the last part. Coming from Dammam they had no flat to go to so they went straight to the lock-up garage, which they reached fifteen minutes later. They walked together, talking about the local football team who had been beaten again. At the beginning of the season the owners had brought in some Brazilian guy who couldnât say a word they understood; the team was getting worse as well, they were a joke and most of the team were putting on weight; it was only a matter of time before this latest big money South American got sacked. It seemed that Brazilian Footballers were World Class but their Coaches were garbage, not knowing one end of the ball from the other. Look at that guy Chelsea took on, just hadnât a clue, no width to his team and too many mistakes passing the ball. If anyone saw them talking, they would not stand out as the subject of conversation was the same for most men on the Eastern side of Saudi Arabia, except of course those in all-night traffic jams.
